A LEGO® Robotics Challenge

Early on, we caught onto the fact that some of our kids were having so much fun just handling the LEGO® Robotics pieces that they really weren't paying much attention to the programming, and couldn't explain what they did very well after class.

Our solution: our Robo Challenge class, where we start with a programming challenge. Can you get your motor to turn on/ off/ this direction/ that direction when you type a key/ trigger a motion sensor/ trigger a tilt sensor? Huh? As it turns out, kids can think through these puzzles if they concentrate before they get their hands on the LEGO®s. Once they can write the program and explain it, we challenge them to find a real-life application for the program - can it be used to drive a robotic car through a factory? Turn helicopter rotors or windmill arms? We have seen some really cool creations come out of this class!

The Great Adventure Lab is an after school science/ STEM enrichment program for elementary school students in the metro DC area. We make science irresistibly fun for kids!.

We're also on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube!
