Lontong Cap Gomeh - Nelayan AUD8.50

After looking at Sambel Goreng Cirebon plus Ketupat and lontong at grandma's, both Eid ul Fitr food, I couldn't resist when this bowl of lontong walked right under my nose.

The curry was good with a nice amount of warm spices and a good zing from the lemongrass. It wasn't too rich with coconut milk either, but it did have a fair whack of chilli. There was a tender piece of chicken, batons of hairy gourd, and a whole boiled egg.

The cubes of ketupat, basically rice compressed in parcels of palm leaves, had a nice texture, firm and fragrant of a mellow grassiness from the palm leaves. The texture was a bit floury though, perhaps maybe made too long ago.

The name in Indonesian was rather amusing though. Cap Gomeh is Hokkien for 十五晚 "the fifteenth night", the last day of Chinese New Year. Perhaps this dish is a bit of a fusion dish invented by the Chinese in Indonesia?
