Appenzell is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful regions of Switzerland. But lately, the area has become a victim of its own success. The once tranquil and pristine valleys are now overrun by tourists from all over the world.
However, most of these visitors arrive around 10 AM and leave again by 4 PM. That’s where I have the advantage of living in Switzerland. The hours before 10 AM and after 4 PM belong entirely to me.
Like this morning: an incredible sunrise captured during a well-planned adventure. Best of all, there wasn’t another tourist in sight. By the time I’d packed up and started heading back, the crowds began pouring in. Fortunately, I was already on my way down, leaving the valley behind for a few hours of what can only be described as a mass tourism frenzy.
In the process I also made a short film depicting the stunning landscape if this region and that can be found below.
