MV HYAK AGAINST THE SUNSET
Posting on this "Ferry Friday" of 28 June 2019 as WSF is having to sadly retire the MV Hyak due to lack of funding to keep the ferry in service past 52 years this Sunday on the 9:05 pm sailing from Seattle to Bremerton. Rather happy with how this 8/2016 photo came out...
But I must say the retirement of the MV Hyak creates increasing strain on the state ferry system, especially as according to the WSF press release, "Hyak's retirement will reduce the size of the WSF fleet from 23 to 22 ferries. WSF requires 19 vessels to fully operate the summer schedule, and, with 12 more boats due for retirement in the next 20 years, there is an increased risk of service disruptions due to routine maintenance requirements and unexpected repairs that become more common with old vessels."
