290 Mulberry is a 13-story residential condominium in the Nolita neighborhood of New York City. Zoning and building code laws dictated that the building's facade be predominantly masonary to fit in with neighboring structures. SHoP came up with an innovative design involving panels of bricks extruding in wave-like patterns, giving the elegant building a funky, undulating look. Facing complex geometries and other modern complications, the company used the building information modeling BIM) capabilities of Revit Architecture software, facilitating construction by breaking the wall into component sections fabricated individually and assembled on-site. Detailed contexual rendering ensured that the new building complemented the surrounding neighborhood while achieving a distinctive look.
