Japanese Dock, Oregon Coast

The earthquake that struck Japan on March 11th, 2011 was one of the most powerful ever recorded. The quake and resulting tsunami killed more than 16,000 people.

Wrenched from the Japanese fishing port of Misawa by the giant waves, this dock drifted for more than a year before finally coming ashore just north of Newport, Oregon.
