Paleo Perithia (Pantokrator) (1999)

Europe, Greece, Ionian, Korfoe, Pantokrator mountain, Paleo Perithia.

Shot in the largely ruined and abandoned village of Paleo Perithia. It’s located on the Pantokrator. This mountain is located in the Northeast of Corfu and is 917 m. high, making it the highest of Corfu.

It is named after the “Pantokrator”, the first church built there in the 14th century. There is a monastery now.

Our island transport: for the Corfoe tour we wanted to rent two light scooters, but these weren’t available in the village where we stayed (Agios Gordis). Olga from Ttatsos motors said ‘we only have one heavier one’. It proved to be a Gilera Runner 180 cc. Its screaming high-performance two-stroke engine was a hoot. Not exactly frugal, but hey ;-) The road-holding of the scooter was fab too and there was only one problem – on the very long and steep descent of the Pantokrator hill, the front disc brake had fading problems. So we had to stop two times to let it cool off.

(from the Naxos-Korfoe diary).

This shot wasn't originally captured with the Nikon 1 J5, I just used it to capture the analog picture which was shot with the analog Sigma SA 300, loaded with Kodak Gold 200 film and printed on Fuji Crystal Archive paper.

This is number 41 of Les années argentiques and 98 of Gloriously dilapidated.
