Towards the Ponte Dom Luis 1 (Porto)

Europe, Portugal, Região Norte, Porto, Ribeira, Dom Luis 1 bridge, Metro de Porto cars, Peope

A view towards the Dom Luis 1 bridge is one of the Porto icons, pobably thé icon. “It was at the time of its construction, the longest arch span in the World, at 172 m and remains the longest-spanning iron arch to this day. It represents the swan song of wrought iron bridges, as at the start of the 20th century stronger steel of more consistent quality would almost entirely replace the use of wrought iron in bridge construction.” (from: A critical analysis of the design and construction of the D Luis 1 bridge, Porto – J J Wells, (2011, University of Bath).

On the bridge two coupled trainsets (Flexity Outlook) of the Metro de Porto (total length 75 km, 6 lines, the capacity of the system: 9000 passengers/line/hour).
