555

Europe, Netherlands, Zuid Holland Rotterdam, Blaak, Blaak 555

Blaak 555 is one of the Rotterdam landmarks. It has a remarkable history - twists and turns galore. It was designed by Helmut Jahn from Murphy/Jahn with Inbo and 3BN as participating partners It was commissioned by Credit Lyonnais and eventually became one of the seats of Fortis, once a large Dutch/Belgian insurance and banking conglomerate.

During the 2008 credit crunch, it went down, almost taking one of her recent acquisitions, Dutch system bank ABN/AMRO with it. Ii was bailed out and restructured/cut up by the Belgian and Dutch governments. And the building was sold.

The current owner is German investment group ‘ KanAm Grund ‘ which converted it two years ago into a multi-tenant (befrijfsverzamelgebouw) office building. The new name Blaak 555 (the address of the building).
