Bokeh Test! Sony DSC-RX1

Shallow depth of field and creamy bokeh are the photographic holy grail for many shooters, as a compact fixed lens camera with a fast 35mm f/2.0 Carl Zeiss lens feeding a 24.3 MP full-frame sensor, how would it deliver on its price tag?

This is a temple just a stone's throw from my office near Chinatown. These joss sticks are in a cauldron at the rear entrance of this temple in Chinatown, with candles about 5m / 15ft behind them, and I was here just before sunset, so the ambient lighting was soft.

The RX1 performed brilliantly - wide open it gives phenomenal DoF, making 2 joss sticks 'pop' while throwing everything else into a blur with pleasing circles of light. A lot of shooters will pass on the RX1 or RX1r because of its list price and lack of lens-changeability, but compared to a similarly M Leica and Summicron 35mm f/2 lens, it's a bargain.
