For those who wonder; This is a true HDR image.
This was about an hour after sunset and it gets very dark very quickly in Norway during the winter months.
It was so dark that you couldn't see the small islands in the middle of the fjord and actually very little of the ocean itself.
The buoy was lit though and if I had done this as a regular photo you would either see just the buoy and nothing else, or you would see the fjord and an all white (overexposed) lifebuoy.
With HDR, both subjects may be perfectly exposed at the same time.
Notice the sky being all blue, that is the color of night.
