#20 Dapper Dad

If for some reason you were told you would not be around when your children were adults, what image would you create for them?

— Elinor Carucci

My Dad was a man of simple tastes and needs. He instilled in me a love of the outdoors and the wonder of nature, as well as valuing creativity and inventiveness. He was a hard working family man.

I have a photo of my Dad in a suit, circa 1955, walking arm in arm with my Mom down a city street. I never saw him looking so dapper. That wasn't the man I knew.

I am much like my Dad, I'm ingrained with the same values and traits. I appreciate the simpler things in life, but at the same time I have an unknown history all my own.

In this photo I want to convey to my son that, like my own Dad, there is more to it than what he's grown up with. We are complex, multifaceted beings.

I'm Daddy, but I can be dapper too.
