Preening Vulture

I live and hike in an area where turkey vultures (Cathartes aura) are totally ubiquitous, and you see at least a dozen every day. But it took over a decade of hiking to finally see a turkey vulture stop, land, and preen itself. He put on quite a show, and it was actually great to see his feather structure on his wings...they might not be pretty, but they're mighty impressive in the air.

Every time he'd straighten out a feather or two he'd look back up, with that beady-eyed stare that says, "Oh, yeah...chicks dig me."
