PERSONAL FUN FACT: This was the Britney Spears doll that started it all for me. I wasn't familiar with any of Brit's music back then, but I had a fancy for this doll because I liked her braids. I'm not sure why, but I've always gravitated towards dolls with two braids (like the Wizard of Oz Dorothy or Rain or Sun Barbie). Dad bought Britney for me one afternoon at Kmart, I think when I was in fourth grade. I'm sure if Mom had been with me instead, she would have vetoed the idea. Britney Spears dolls were kind of expensive back then, especially if they had a gimmick. This particular doll can sing, which would have made her more expensive than the standard dolls. I remember visiting Dad's best friend Jimmy afterwards, since he lived not far from Kmart. I recall opening Britney in the back of Dad's pickup truck (a 1999 Chevy Silverado). Whenever my sister and I were out with Dad, he was sure to pop in and visit a friend or my Uncle David. It always felt like we were waiting around for HOURS to go home. That's probably why Dad bought us dolls..to keep us occupied while he hung out with his best friend. Britney's novelty was short lived. I remember playing with her a few times on my bunk bed...but then I realized something incredible. Britney could "sing" while other dolls lip synced! Britney wasn't as attractive as some of my other dolls, plus the speaker on her torso made dressing her a bit hard. Britney was rendered even more useless when I got real Britney Spears CDs for Christmas. Mom took note of my obsession with my Britney Spears doll, so she picked out two of her CDs for me that year for Christmas. So it's all thanks to this doll that I fell in love with Britney Spears in the first place. Even though I didn't play with her all the time growing up, she is one of the most special dolls in my collection, and she will always have a place in my heart!
