(1995) Travelin' Sisters Playset Barbie Outfit & Accessories
BOX DATE: 1995
MANUFACTURER: Mattel
DOLLS IN PACK: Skipper, Barbie, Stacie, Kelly
RELEASES: American; Japanese
PERSONAL FUN FACT: This set came with oodles of goodies! I think that may have been one of the main reasons we wanted the Travelin' Sisters Playset more than the Winter Vacation one that we found on eBay. Of course, Colleen and I did hunt for the Winter Vacation set many times over the years, but it was less common to find than this Travelin' Sisters one. Anyways, The dolls all came with luggage of sorts, that they could share. That's why all the accessories are shown here, with Barbie's outfit. But the other sisters' garments are all photographed in their own albums. Anyways, I let Colleen have all this makeup when we were kids. I had tons of makeup in these same molds, and since this stuff was sold with a Skipper, I thought Colleen could use it for her Skipper dolls. It spent most of its time being played with by Colleen, as makeup for her favorite Pet Pals Robin. The paper accessories are glorious! I love how 90s Barbies almost always came with a sheet of cardboard punch outs. It took me a long time to figure out what went with these dolls, since we got other boxed 90s Barbies that same Christmas. Some items were easy, like the passports, tickets, and luggage tags--we played with these pieces as kids. As for Barbie's outfit, I was always bedazzled by her plaid skirt. It reminded me of a school uniform, so I was keen to play with it. The vest/frumpy blouse combination was not my taste. I was more into urban doll clothes, whereas this part of Barbie's outfit was frumpy mom in my book. Colleen used these pieces on Becky if I'm not mistaken. Actually, this ensemble looks wonderful with School Photographer Becky's red lipstick and her shade of ginger hair!
