365.93: at the car dealership
We have two cars in our household. Thom and I carpool together to work, and we drive the "new" car, a 2004 Honda Accord. Our second car, a 1997 Toyota Corolla, mostly stays in the garage except for some local driving. It's pretty banged up, has a weird paint job, crooked antenna, trunk that is held closed with a bungee cord, etc.
Thom was pretty convinced that this year it would fail inspection. Not unreasonable, considering the bungee cord across the license plate! So, he just didn't take it in. And didn't take it in. And didn't take it in.
Finally, since the sticker was due to be replaced back in October, I brought it to the local dealership where we have our other car serviced. I figured that when they failed it, I could immediately go to the body shop and get an estimate on having it repaired. Then we could decide if it was worth the money to have it repaired, or if we'd need to replace it. Thom's vote was for replacing it, without even knowing the cost of repairs!
Miracle of miracles, it passed inspection. Probably shouldn't have, but it did. So, much to Thom's chagrin, we can get another year out of the beater car.
