Warm dunes in Kaiser Crater (THEMIS_IOTD_20130801)

This daytime infrared (heat) image shows part of the dune field on the floor of Kaiser Crater. The dune sand is active, hence less dusty, hence darker and, finally, warmer than the surrounding materials, so it appears bright in the image. The scene here measures 30 x 105 kilometers (19 x 65 miles).
