Landslide (THEMIS_IOTD_20110225)

A landslide occurred from the rim of this unnamed crater in Margaritifer Terra on Mars. But the slide is hardly recent, and may have occurred a billion years ago. The clue? A close look at the debris shows where a few post-slide meteorite impacts have left craters on it. For such a small target to experience impacts like that implies that the slide happened a long, long time ago. The scene here measures 17 x 63 kilometers (10 x 39 miles).
