Spiny!
Poky! Spiny! Sharp!
This is a cholla cactus, and I had many encounters with these guys when I lived in Joshua Tree. For instance, when these plants die, they kind of break apart. One day at the bus stop, someone was playing around with a broken segment and they managed to throw it on my arm. Ouch -- it stuck on my wrist, which then lead to little red bumps to form that took a year to disappear. Weird.
