Horndøla bridge

This beautiful stone bridge was built around 1810 and served as a vital crossing over the Horndøla river on the old post road between Hellesylt and Geiranger. Made from local stone and traditional dry masonry techniques, the arch bridge is a fine example of early 19th-century Norwegian craftsmanship.

For more than a century, it connected remote communities and allowed transport of people, mail, and goods through the rugged valley. It remained in regular use until modern roads took over in the 20th century.

Now preserved as a cultural heritage site, the bridge stands as a quiet witness to the era of horses, carts, and hard travel through the fjords.
