Rudee Inlet Dredging

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Currituck prepares to open its hull to empty sand to the bottom of the ocean about 500 feet from the shoreline of 15th Street at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. The Corps dredge vessel has been off the East Coast of Rudee Inlet from July 18-21, 2012, removing 7,515 cubic yards of sand (shoaling) in the federal navigation channel. While the vessel was here, Col. Paul Olsen and several Norfolk District employees and interns met the crew, toured the vessel and saw first-hand how a hopper dredge works to re-nourish the shoreline.
