This Hecht's Department Store opened up in 1947 and was the first Washington, DC suburban branch for this chain. It closed in 1987 when Hecht's opened up a store at Wheaton Plaza further out closer to the Beltway.
It is now part of City Place Mall which is a series of interconnected blocks and buildings that opened in 1992. It connects the old Silver Spring Shopping Center and the old Hecht's Department Store.
