This abandoned motel has a sharp focus accented by the dark "frame" and stark contrasts. Ari Hahn says: Is there humanity here or neglect? The man is sitting where the adverts are not. The foreground has piles of garbage and the living space is hidden in the back most layer. It's is all to serve humankind, or maybe it is not a service but a disservice?

Ari Hahn says: Freidlander took a huge amount of pictures from his car and often put photographic statement in the rear view mirror. That, I think, was the initial basis for a feeling of surrealism. Just find a spot where the view in the mirror is incongruous with the surrounding view, or has a "commentary" on the surrounds! Asta! I think if you were able to align the horizons this would have been mind-blowing!
