Hermit Crab...no, no...Thrush!

The Hermit Thrush (Catharus guttatus) is another of our resident birds with liquid, mystical calls. Their songs are enchanting and otherworldly, a break in the sometimes monotonous chirps and prattles of other songbirds. Living in the forests of the north during the summer, hermit thrushes root around in leaf litter in search of tasty bugs. Interestingly, they will sometimes obtain insects through an action known as foot quivering, during which they shake bits of grass to scare up meals!
