Circa 1967/68 RCA artist’s concept of a Voice-Controlled Propulsion Backpack which, like the Manned Maneuvering Unit flown on three Shuttle missions in 1984, may be derived from the US Air Force Astronaut Maneuvering Unit.

For me, this is an absolutely delightful find/nugget, in multiple ways, like:
”Voice-controlled”!?! First heard for me! Get it…“heard”?
Who knew??? Did YOU??? I obviously didn’t!
For starters – if it even got that far - I would’ve loved to have known any of the specifics of the voice commands. Let alone the available/envisioned technology then that would’ve enabled it.
Then there’s the scene itself, including the odd/hazardous/inefficient tethered EVA cargo transfer in progress, to the interesting Saturn stage from which the foreground astronaut is about to translate over (to the AAP workshop) with the little truss assembly in hand. Note also the Apollo spacecraft/Gemini apparel “mix”. And I suspect there might be some artistic license going on here. Regardless, I love it.
This is the first confirmed James Burns reproduction I’ve ever acquired. The meticulous detail is outstanding.
Last but NOT least, the reason I was able to paraphrase the description…it’s the image that Mr. Burns is working on in the lead-in photograph! What are the odds? So, for both of us that wondered where he was going with it, TAH-DAH! Let alone the other examples & biography.
Thank you and continue to Rest In Peace Good Sir/my Brother-In-Arms.
Multiple varying handling blemishes, fortunately minor, do not detract from the photo, which is still of superior gloss.
Although of a different flavor, A WIN!
