“Capt. Wayne Eades & Lt. Polley with Titan 3 locomotives.”

And, per the press slug:

“Some Pull

Three veterans of the Korean War have been pressed into service at Cape Kennedy – 800-horsepower diesel locomotives, two of which are shown here with Capt. Wayne Eades (left) and Lt. Richard B. Polley, two project officers on the Titan III complex. The locomotives, which were used in Korea to transport supplies, have been “retrained” to pull future Titan III rockets more than two miles from their assembly building to the launch pad.”

Who knew?!?!?!

Did YOU????? I doubt it.

I DIDN’T!!!

This has to be my favorite “back story” to a photograph.

Kudos to the Miami (?) Herald reporter responsible, and most likely…continue to Rest In Peace.

A fantastic & high resolution/highly detailed photograph, despite the fact I was unable to remove the press organization’s (Miami Herald?) infernal permanent markings that outline/highlight Capt. Eades’ backside, the two mobile umbilical masts (atop their mobile launch platforms), and Vehicle Integration Building (VIB) in the background. The VIB, BTW, was dismantled in 2006.

Pertinent, informative & interesting:
