“ORBITAL PROPELLANT DEPOT”

ICW the below linked photo, an orbital refueling/propellant depot/tanker is seen possibly being replenished by a smaller delivery vehicle. I think. Note the basket-like docking interface visible at the aft end of the depot/tanker, common in many early depictions of such docking interfaces. A beautiful work.

The verso bears the repeating EKC logo. This rarely seen Eastman Kodak Company backprint technique for photographic paper pre-dates the coveted "A KODAK PAPER" watermarked NASA photographs, hence my date range estimation.

Most importantly/fortunately, the artist’s signature is visible in the lower right corner. The artist, Euel Dean Cagle, was a NASA-MFSC artist, born December 1925/died January 2002. Unfortunately, thus far I’ve found no additional information on him. A WIN nonetheless…I’ll take it.

And, per a blurb in the May 1979 issue of “NASA Activities”, he’s identified as being responsible for the final design & artwork for the original/official Space Telescope Program "badge"…aka the Hubble Space Telescope.

Finally, my thanks to F. S. Wood, who astutely surmised what the four “appendages” at the aft end of the depot were based on my initial/below post.
