“SPACE CONSTRUCTION--With the first orbital flight of NASA’s Space Shuttle less than a year away, attention is being directed to ways to use the new transportation system. Scientists and engineers at Grumman Aerospace Corporation have devised methods of building large space structures which can serve in the colonization and industrialization of space. Here, a Grumman Beam Builder, mounted in the Shuttle’s cargo bay, turns aluminum sheet into construction beams. Meanwhile, a Manned Remote Work Station, also a Grumman design, maneuvers the beams into position for the huge structures.”
