A creative 1973 artist’s perspective depicting external tank separation during a space shuttle ascent. In addition to the hinged/retractable forward reaction control system ‘assemblies’, this view reveals the extension of the OMS pods into the cargo bay doors. The final design of course had the OMS pods commence aft of the cargo bay doors.
