“TITAN III - - United Technology Corporation has received an interim contract to carry out preliminary work on the development of the solid booster stage of the Air Force Titan III. This artist’s conception shows the huge segmented, solid propellant rockets, each 120 inches in diameter and producing more than a million pounds of thrust, blasting the Standardized Space Launch Vehicle into space. Titan III will stand over 103 feet tall on the pad and will be utilized to put multi-ton payloads in orbit, including the X-20 or Dyna-Soar.”
