“First Saturn IB [AS-201], whose booster stage was built in New Orleans, undergoes pre-flight checkout on the launch pad at Cape Kennedy, Fla. Chrysler Corporation Space Division engineers dub the S-IB “topless”, as it awaits mating with an Apollo spacecraft that will ride atop the Saturn when it is launched early in 1966 on a ballistic trajectory down the Atlantic range.”
