A frame from Jack Schmitt's Station 4 pan at Shorty Crater. It is not certain whether he had started the pan before noticing the orange soil; but the dialog and the internal evidence of other pictures, indicate that Jack first saw the orange soil at about the time he started the pan. The scoop head is at the upper right. Note that the center of the image is blurred compared with the edges. This is consistent with the possibility that Jack got dust on the lens during the traverse from Station 3.
