Flood Gate
Taken in August 1999.
This earthen berm is a defense against Mississippi River floods in Hannibal. It rises between the river, which is off to the left, and the town on the right. The concrete gate allows passage, but when the water rises, so does a barrier from below the street. We were there to see Mark Twain's boyhood home.
