Mask of Dionysos

In this bas-relief the head shown as a mask in profile is probably that of a maenad. The reference to the cult of Dionysos, god of wine and theater, is evident from the symbols (vines, diadem, basked, goatskin), as well as from the choice of the marble, red like wine (rosso antico). The piece has two holes, that were meant for the passage of water. It was probably part of a fountain.

Mind, it is almost 1 meter hight

It is from the reign of Hadrianus, around 135 AD.
