MarioKart 8 Deluxe Review!

Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U may not be my favorite Mariokart game, but I do believe it’s the most well made Mario Kart game in the series. Now with this Switch port of Mario Kart 8, they’ve added tons of new content like new characters, vehicles, and a whole new battle mode! So, was a port of Mario Kart 8 necessary, or should they have just made a Mario Kart 9? Let’s check it out!

Good: Almost every negative I have about Mario Kart 8 has been resolved in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. In the Wii U Mario Kart 8, the battle mode was just played on some of the tracks in the game, which made it really un-fun. Now, the battle mode is actually good with great new arenas and some old ones from past Mario Kart games. This new battle mode comes with tons of fun modes like Shine Thief and Renegade Roundup! My other complaint with Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U is that the option to hold two items at once was taken away. I believe this really took a lot of the strategy out of the game. But now that they brought the old mechanic back, it truly feels like a Mario Kart game! Those are the two biggest fixes to the game, but some other things that I like adding new characters like Bowser Jr., who’s my favorite Mario Kart character, sure didn’t hurt it!

Bad: Now there are still a few things about this game that I wasn’t a fan of in the original. First off is the roster, which consists of five unnecessary baby characters, all the Koopalings that should be just sharing one slot in the roster like in Smash, and Metal Mario and Pink Gold Peach. Not to mention that another new character is Gold Mario, but at least he share a slot with Metal Mario. Another problem I had with this game is the online, for some reason my connection issues have been considerably worse than the online on the Wii U version.

Overall, this port of Mario Kart 8 did nothing but improve upon the original, not to mention that this version I can take on the go, which is awesome! Mario Kart 8 is a game that I never get tired of, now with a version that I can take on the go, I will be playing it more than ever! For these reasons, I’m going to give Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a 9.75/10. This is a must have for any Switch owner.Sorry this review's shorter than others, since it's a port to a game, I didn't have much to say. Anyways, if you have Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, let me know what you think of it in the comments below!
