Day 4: Four eyed

It's only natural, that on day 4, we should tie that in with being a 4-eyed person, no?

I've been a spectacle wearer for 14 years or so now. I so remember the first time I had a dummy eye-test with the school nurse, and then she gave me a letter to take home to my mummy, which then meant I had to be taken to the official Optometrist. I remember every single detail about that first eye test, in that dark dark room.

To this day I remember [just about] every single eye-test. How close the Optometrist leans into my personal space, how quiet it gets now and then. The whole "Which looks clearer, 1 or 2?" question asking, by which the indecisive me would then say "Can you repeat it please?" A few Optometrists forget about repeating with me, but I've found a good few who remember and are really patient. I have come to discover that a lot of Optometrists are patient beings. [I'm not saying that cos my bestfriend is an Optom.. heh, the amount of times I've been a guinea pig to her and her student colleagues is astounding! but it's true!]

But I also remember how hard Optoms try to making small talk. But I do recall this one test when the male Optometrist just didn't bother making small talk with me, instead showed me things so interesting, all eye-related. He had taken a picture of my retina, and showed me the screen. And I was like wow!

But I got to admit, being short-sighted isn't all fun and everything. I've had my fallings out with spectacles. Hating the fact that I had such crap vision. Not coming from a rich enough family [considering how all my family members wear specs] to afford thinned lenses. Having NHS frames. Trying on lots of frames in the shop and not really being able to see what I look like with them on cos of my crap vision.

Frames are such expensive things, even to this day. I must say I used to hate glasses. But as I grow up I'm starting to not mind them as much anymore. [Well, also down to the fact that contact lenses can make my eyes sore and painful, so specs are such a lifesaver!]

Sure, my vision limits me to a lot of things, and is a burden to me financially. But I think there are reasons why I am cursed with my vision, as God has blessed with other things. Like it's said, through every curse comes a blessing. I'll leave you to ponder about that.

[If you found that interesting, why not wander over to the other image and read the semi-essay I wrote in the comment section here]
