Strange Days
Right here. Right now for a large and dark view.
Something towards an explanation of my recent absence - a trip to the "Big Apple" don't cha know and of course my trusty Canon with associated 50mm came with me. Unfortunately time for photography was extremely limited but I did manage to get a few opportunities to amble around Manhattan.
One thing that always strikes me about the area is the contrast between the towering office blocks and the tiny alleyways and suchlike which surround them - the scene here is just a stone's throw from some of the most spectacular skyscrapers but is one which caught my eye more than the vaste expanses of steel and glass.
As is often the way my iPod was entertaining me and at the time I took this I was enjoying the tunes of the Boy that is both Slim and Fat and the ditty Right Here. Right Now which includes a sample of the character 'Mace' from the film Strange Days.
Although set in Los Angeles the scene here reminded me of the atmosphere of the film - this feeling and my iPod combined to dictate the title of the shot.
As usual I didn't have my tripod with me but a rather bent and twisted bollard served the purpose well.
There's something about these 'urban fragments' which brings you back to earth with a bump - in the surroundings of lower Manhattan it's easy to get swept away in the environment of skyscrapers and big business... but the reality of life continues. The rubbish still piles up and the day to day has to be done, regardless of who you are.
Enjoy
