TREE and my shadow (48:365)

September 25: Spent the afternoon walking in downtown Monterey looking for a few stray geocaches (found one). As we were headed toward our last one--which was to have been followed by a latte (me) and cappuccino (David)--my phone chirped: a Search & Rescue call-out--a woman suffering from heat stroke (it's been unusually hot here the past couple of days) on a steep trail. Decision time. It was 3:57. We were scheduled to have dinner with friends at 7. Should I go? The destination wasn't too far away, and how long could a straightforward carry-out take? Plus: I'm TRYING to be more committed to my commitment to SAR. So what if I had to postpone the dinner? So okay: I decided to do it. Got to the substation 40 minutes later, where I met up with our sergeant, and off we went (code 3, woohoo!). Dashed up the trail after the rest of our team with the wheel, reaching them just as we met up with the patient, who'd been "packaged" already by Cal Fire. We got her on the wheel, then quickly and smoothly worked our way back down the hill to the ambulance. Packed up the truck, and we were back at the substation by 6:15. Plenty of time for a shower before dinner. Glad I went.

As for this picture, it's something I noticed on our geohunt. Will they put a tree there, or is it conceptual art? How much of reality is really real anyway?
