Then pin and sew the two halves together. At this stage you can lay it over some batting and backing, and quilt it, or simply lay it over a second full sheet and tie it together. A lovely example of a simple, tied coverlet can be found here. That's a whole quilt with no more equipment than a sewing machine and an iron.
