Viscri
Fortified church, Viscri (German: Deutschweißkirch or Weißkirch, Hungarian: Szászfehéregyháza), Romania
The first fortifications around the 11th century church date from the 15th century. The Saxon villagers built several towers to protect the fortifications in the 16th century. Because of the unstable political-military situation a second wall was built in the 18th century.
Parts of the fortifications were transformed into a school and storage space.
The fortified church was designated in 1993 as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
