London beach
With the addition of many tons of sand, this stretch of the shoreline of the River Thames below Gabriel's Wharf (a shopping area of small traders and craftspeople, run by the Coin Street community) is a regular haunt for sand sculptors, and on hot sunny days, like they day I took this photo, on September 9, 2012, during the annual Thames Festival, it also attracts those who want their London experience to include actually sitting on a beach!
The pier on the right of the photo is in front of the former Oxo Tower, also run by Coin Street community, which now consists of shops, apartments and a restaurant on the top floor, and across the river is St. Paul's Cathedral and the towers of the City of London, including, on the right, the Gherkin (30 St. Mary's Axe).
