The Two Castles

Even though the famous royal castle of Neuschwanstein is visited by millions of visitors each year, you don't have to venture off far from it to escape the flow of tourists. In fact I was surprised how idyllic and natural the landscape around the castle is. I've already posted a photo of the nearby (and lesser known) castle of Hohenschwangau. Here, I wanted to show how both castles are immersed in a truly beautiful area of southern Germany.

I have to thank Kilian Schönberger for this view, he was probably the first landscape photographer to discover its potential. His amazing photo of Neuschwanstein castle made me look for a similar view as well. Only later, when looking at my photos at home, I discovered that I must have been even photographing from the same exact spot as him. But even for such a busy tourist attraction as the two castles, this spot it's still pretty much unknown.
