Sunrise on the Rocks

Earlier this month I went back to the Saxon Switzerland and the Elbe Sandstone Mountains near Dresden. It is one of the most scenic locations I know of in Germany and unfortunately also one of those that it is farthest from where I live. When we arrived in Dresden on Monday afternoon it was completely overcast with no sight of the sun. Nevertheless we teamed up with Holger aka *Niceshoot* (check out his awesome photos from the region) who led us the following morning to a very wild looking landscape near the famous Bastei. It was very dark, cold and still very cloudy. However, there was some hope since we could see an opening in the clouds on the horizon. And indeed we were lucky: When the sun finally rose up it illuminated the whole scenery with its golden light. It was really stunning to experience the morning there on the rocks. And it made me appreciate the Saxon Switzerland even more.
