Common Blue ... Polyommatus icaris 1
It has been a very poor Spring for butterflies in my locale but who would have guessed that the Common Blue butterfly, is at present, easily the most common butterfly that i have seen over the past two weeks or so with numbers reaching a dozen males and several females last Friday afternoon at my local SSSI in Empingham. Two years ago i only saw two all year!
Here is a stock image of one of those who was unceremoniously knocked off it's ribwort plantain perch as i was preparing for an isolation image by a large longhorn beetle and the blue landed at my feet ... click!
