Affairs of state forbade me from attending Boston Comic-Con on Sunday, and that's a damn shame for anyone with a camera. That's the day of the costume contest. It's akin to the days of the old West, when buffalo darkened the Plains like a black cloud.
Cosplayers were thinner on the ground on Saturday, but there were many choice specimens. I was even free to take my pick of Jared The Goblin Kings.
This is a fun character to photograph. She looks terrific. Plus, when you've got a photo of a fantasy/magic character, you've got a license to finally break out the weird vignette and "presence" Photoshop tools without shame.
We live, we learn: I've messed up enough of these shots in the past that I was thinking "Make sure you have the flash firing under and into that canopy of hair, and double-make-sure you're locking focus on the face and not the hand." If you're committed to taking up as little of the person's time as possible, it's important to make mistakes in your head as you approach your subject, and correct them before you take the picture.
