Fern Study 1

Something a bit different from me. I recently dug out my 150mm macro lens, which I hadn't used for a few years and decided one morning to have a bit of a play in the garden.

The Japanese Shield Fern that I bought for half price towards the end of last summer has exploded into life and is putting our some magnificent fronds. The structures and patterns of nature have always fascinated me and the fern displays them well, being almost a natural Mandlebrot Set.

I used a sheet of cardboard packaging to isolate the plant and used a wide aperture to drastically narrow the depth of field.
