13003 Tinsley
What a great concept! One of the first articles that really hooked me was 'Tinsley - BR's most modern yard' featured in Locospotters Annual 1967. I was 10 years old so didn't get the Dowty retarder bit, as I didn't even know what a hump yard was back then. However, I was intrigued by the 'master and slave' story.
All but one of my visits to Tinsley were like this one, on a Sunday so the 13's were usually on shed. In 1982 we rocked up on a Thursday afternoon and saw 13003 in action (see below). Great locos, and why didn't I take more pictures of them? Sadly the first to be retired 13002 happened this very month - June 1981.
Did I read somewhere that there is a project to create one of these again?
