Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights)

In the wee small hours, I saw some images in one of the groups on Facebook. They said they had taken them in the last 20 mins and were going back out to shoot some more. There was only one thing for it I had to get out and try to shoot it for myself, however, I had a problem, my tripod is broken. Not to be deterred I went out anyway with a solution in mind all I needed was a good site for both the Aurora and my idea to work. There are several sites in the North East where I would like to shoot the Aurora, but none of them is close enough to try my plan out, so what to do? One key criterion is to get the elevation or go to the coast to get a nice big sky, well from my house there is no shortage of hills. Having found my location I set up with my camera on a strainer post (Gate post) and shutter release cable attached.

The camera set up was ISO 1600 f.4 Shutter speed 30 sec.

I was treated to a good display of both Aurora and the Taurid meteor shower sadly I didn't manage to capture the latter, but still, I was able to witness some very bright fireballs so bright they cast shadows. Hopefully, I will have a chance to capture the Aurora and a meteor shower again soon.

Last night we visited my wife (Sylvia) in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary finally she is tube free following her surgery last Friday. She is a fighter and I would say that she has won round one, the four-hour surgery to remove some cancerous tissue and fit a cage.
