Al-Siq at Petra

The Bedouin horse and carriage transport system traverses the narrow Siq ferrying sedentary tourists through the 800m canyon to the Treasury.

Nabatanean architecture in Petra looks melted! Unlike the classical architecture of the Greeks, Romans and Mesopotamians the Nabatanean structures did not collapse having been carved out of the rock rather than being built. For over two thousand years the dry arid environment has limited aging but when it rains here it really rains! Sharp angles and lines have sagged by the erosive power of wind and water. Melting in slow motion.
