Stranger 196 - Aimee

Aimee didn't say yes straight away, when I asked if I might take her photo but she didn't say no either. After a few moments thought she said “Why not?”

I had popped in to town, just to have a little walk and to pick up some credit card sized laminating pouches. With my camera slung over my shoulder, I had done a couple of circuits round Clarks Village, without finding anyone to add to my project.

On my way home I stopped to get the pouches. As I paid for them, Aimee came into the shop and asked the cashier politely, if they sold rugs. He confirmed that they did and she went off to have a look. As I went out of the shop I decided that I would like to make a portrait of Aimee and waited outside for her.

Introductions made I then discovered that there was nowhere particularly suitable outside the shop to take the picture. Aimee is a local and was happy to walk with me a bit to find somewhere more comfortable. We sat down on some benches in Clarks Village, maybe 50m from where we met.

Aimee works front of house at The Bear Inn. It is right opposite where I used to work. Aimee was well aware that my old office supplies much of their business. When she is not working Aimee enjoys drinking, going out and sporting activity. She played football for 10 years and was at Bristol City FC Academy until a couple years ago. Aimee also plays basketball and goes bowling.

I told Aimee that I had photographed another ex-footballer [Natasha, my stranger 103]. Natasha had retired from football due to an injury. Aimee was sympathetic and said that it was a shame when this happens – she put it better than that, I can't remember exactly what she said.

Aimee would like to go to University. We agreed that she would have opportunities to play football again then. I said that I used to play but if I tried now I would have to walk instead of run. Aimee said that she would struggle too because of smoking.

After taking a few photos with Aimee, we walked back to the high street where she would continue her search for a rug and I would head back home.

Thank you Aimee, for letting me take your photo today. It was good to meet you. Best wishes.
